Can you believe it has been almost four year that I’ve been at the Chamber? I’ll admit, sometime it feels longer, but I can’t quite believe it when I think about it.
On my desk, I have a picture that has been there since I started working at the Chamber. It is of my daughter, taken when I started work: she had no teeth, no hair, and has a nice little bit of drool on her chin. She was about 10 weeks old. Now, she’s 4 (and has plenty of hair and doesn’t drool any more, thank you.)
We’ve done a basic banquet, James Bond Banquet, Jungle and Wild West Banquet. Those events are my favorite.
We’v taken our online presence from a static website to an interactive blog-full 2.0 website, added twitter and FaceBook, and we’re getting better at it every day.
Our events have shifted and changed as needs arrived, and they will continue to do so.
Oh, and we moved our office (if you haven’t been there yet, Open House on September 7, 3:00-5:30, 2 S Mission).
I’ve learned much about business, budgeting, sales, marketing, and event planning.
But mostly, I had my eyes opened to the intricate and interesting business world and business people of the Wenatchee Valley. This may sound weird or naive to you, but having grown up here, working service jobs at restaurants, hotels, and even a video store for two months, I was very familiar with the fun side and the young side of the Valley, but I didn’t have a window into all it took to run those or other businesses that are the heart and soul of life here. Now, I’ve been fortunate enough to have a solid glimps at many aspects of many different industries that give value to my home.
And I truly applaud you. To all the business owners, managers, directors—you are brave, hard-working, and so very necessary. My best wishes to all of you.
Oh, did I mention? My stint at the Chamber has come to it’s close. September 16 will be my last day. I’ve decided there are too many years left in my working-life to not activly persue my passion: teaching. I’ll be at WVC as an adjunct English Instructor, continuing my progress through a teaching certificate for secondary English, and of course, spending more time at my first job: being mama to my children.
Life is good, and I’m sure I’ll see you around. ~Rebecca
